This year I received an email that they were holding an Open House / Dry Run night prior to opening to the public and we were invited to check it out. We met the owners of this haunt a few years back at a HauntX convention in LA and really hit it off. Unfortunately we never got a chance to check out their haunt due to the fact they run it only on Halloween. This haunt was a little ways away, but completely well worth it.

Last year we visited Castle Park for the first time during Halloween and the Mausoleum floored us. The Mausoleum haunt in a way became a gold standard for us when judging other haunts. It had it all – great acting, one-of-a-kind effects, custom animatronics and theatrics.

So this year when we visited the new haunt, Factory of Screams, we were a little let down. The acting was still top notch, the ideas were fresh and original and the decor was great. Yet something was lacking this year. The tents were not up so this was an open air haunt where last year was enclosed which kind of changed the feel, but they have a great way to solve that issue at the back of the haunt. Friday night we attended the opening of The Haunted Cellar in Anaheim. Until last weekend I had never herd of this haunt but it looked interesting based on their web site so we decided to check it out (we found out later they were at the Block of Orange last year). This was their opening weekend and as can usually be expected they ran into a few glitches. What was unexpected was that the operators came out every 15 or 20 min and let everyone know that they were working on the glitches and giving us all updates as to the opening of the haunt. The haunt opened a little after 7pm and we were the first through the doors.

On Friday night we went through this haunted attraction to kick off the season. We had high hopes for this one since they had the sponsorship of Lionsgate films and advertised itself as an “interactive” walk through. Unfortunately this was their opening night for this year and the haunt did not start selling tickets or open the doors on time (again it was opening night). Once we were inside we were greeted by a “Billy” on tri-cylce doll and a camera man (Souvenir Pictures were available for purchase at the end of the haunt). Once past the cameraman the haunt really began.

Starting this year we are adding a new feature to the site. As haunt enthusiasts we usually try to go to a few haunts every year to see what everyone else is doing. This leads us to our new feature: Reviews. For each haunt we check out we will post a review of each one with a rating out of 5 Zombies. Check back very soon for our first review on the official SAW Haunted Attraction.
